Crafty Gals Corner Challenge #39 ~ Things with Wings

HELLO FRIENDS!
So there's a great challenge going on over at Crafty Gals Corner! We have a challenge that begins every  WEDNESDAY! More often then not there are MULTIPLE SPONSORS PER WEEK! So there's plenty of chances to win!

Our challenge this week is Things with Wings

Our sponsor this week is:

Prize: 3 digital images

I used the image: Vampire Gabbie to create this fun accordion folded card.

This card was a lot of fun to make. For the first time ever I attempted the Shaving Cream Background. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Here's the link for the tutorial I followed. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/shaving_cream1/

I then used numerous cuts from the silhouette machine, and chalk for the background of the image and viola! How cool?!

Thanks for stopping by today! Go ahead and head on over to Crafty Gals Corner, and join in on our challenge! You have until Tuesday at 12:00pm to enter!

Nikki Burnette Challenge #1 ~ Embellishments!

Hello there!

A couple weeks ago I told you that Nikki Burnette had assembled a design team and was going to start doing challenges! Well today we are sharing the very first one with you.

She has some wonderful, whimsical images that you just HAVE to go and check out! You can find those fantasy art digital images and more over at the Etsy shop!

Nikki Burnette also has a fan group on Facebook, in which you can find TONS of inspiration, sneak peeks, auctions, and other fun things about Nikki and her delightful art.

The challenge EMBELLISHMENTS!
SO here is what I came up with using the image called "Liz"
Digital Stamp - Printable Coloring Page - Fantasy Art - Witch Stamp - Liz - by Nikki Burnette - COMMERCIAL USE

Okay so this background circle came out WAY cooler than I could've imagined. I followed a tutorial by Faery Ink and you can find it here: Isopropyl Alcohol over Copic Marker Background.

The paper stack I used Spooky Delight by DCWV.

Feel free to stop by the Nikki Burnette Challenge Blog and link up your embellished project! The challenges are bi-weekly so you have until then to link up!

Thanks for stopping by!

HUGS,
Samantha

BS Sessions #1

Hello there fellow crafters!

A couple weeks ago, Becca (Damsel of Distressed Cards) and I announced that we had collaborated to bring you "The BS Sessions".

What are the BS Sessions?
Well Samantha knows how to work a marker like nobody's business and Becca loves to get messy with mixed media. We both wanted to learn the other person's crafty secrets so we're going to ask one another a question on the last Thursday of the month. Becca will provide you with some amazing Mixed Media techniques and Samantha will show you some tips and tricks about coloring! We'll both provide our followers with a little tutorial, because if we have these questions - our followers might too!

So Becca's question to me this month was: "How do you blend skin so easily?"

Well first off, it takes A LOT OF PRACTICE! Nothing works the first time around, it's something you have to keep working at.

Secondly, I learned A LOT from the Kit & Clowder Coloring Classes.

In this tutorial I am using Copics, but you can apply the techniques to ANY brand of marker!

STEP 1: Gather the image you want to color! The Copic colors I used for this Skin Tutorial are: E000, E00, E21, E11, E04 <--- In that order from lightest to darkest.

For Spectrum Noir: FS1, FS4, FS9, TN3, TN4

STEP 2: Take your lightest color (in my case E000) and just color in everywhere there is skin. This gives it a base color to work with and it makes it easier to blend later.

STEP 3: Take your darkest color (E04) and lay it down where your shadows, or darkest areas would be. *This is the hardest part - the rest is easy peasy!*

STEP 4: The next step is to take your second darkest color (E11) and go over your shadow area and extend the color out just a little bit.

STEP 5: Then you use your next color down (E21) and do the same thing! However you start this color at the end of the last color (E11). So you don't want to start from the very edge because this will end up de-saturating your colors.

STEP 6: You take your next color (E00) and extend the color a little bit further in.

STEP 7: Take your lightest color (E000) and then fill in the gaps. Remember not to color over your whole image as it could de-saturate your colors.

STEP 8: Now that you skin is all done - You need to add in your blush (R20)! For this step you start wide on the checks and work your self in on the face so it comes to a soft point. This should look triangular.

STEP 9: You then take your lightest color (E000) again and go over the edges of where you just colored your blush.

VIOLA! You've got yourself a beautifully color skin tone!

Here's the final piece colored in case you're interested in seeing it!

SO, thanks for joining me on the skin coloring tutorial today! Becca has provided an AWESOME tutorial on how to use a stencils and produce SHARP and CLEAN lines for mixed media or anything you can use a stencil on really!

Stay tuned for next month's BS SESSIONS, which will appear here on October 29th!

Karleigh Sue Challenge: Anything But a Square

Hello there friends!

Karleigh Sue Challenge Blog

So, things have gotten a little shift, twist, and revamp over at the Karleigh Sue Challenge Blog. Instead of having a Cuties Challenge on the 1st of the month and a Sexy Challenge on the 15th of the month; we now have a fortnightly challenge on Monday's only.

The challenge for the next two weeks is: Anything but a Square!

I used the image called "Russel" which is a retired image - but you can check out the store for many more wonderful images!

So since square cards were obviously off limits for this challenge - I made a Circle Easel card! How fun this was to create. I'm definitely getting in the mood for Fall, Thanksgiving, and all the other fun holidays that come up this time of year.

I hope you'll come and join us for some fun!

Faery Ink Inspiration - September

Hello Faery Ink fans!

How did it get to be almost October already? Summer is over, and fall is right around the corner, at least for us in the U.S it is :)

If you check out the Faery Ink Page you'll see that I'm providing the inspiration today!

So with Halloween right around the corner I decided to make a Halloween themed card using "Whimzie the Witch"

I hope that you will take a look at the Faery Ink Store and try your hand at any one of these amazing images.

My wonderful hubby got me a tiny (kiddo - sized) sewing machine for my birthday because I just LOVE the stitched look on cards. Well as you can see, this is my first attempt and it's not quite straight in some places, but I'll keep practicing!
 Thanks for stopping by today!

Crafty Gals Corner Challenge # 37 - Anything Goes

HELLO FRIENDS!
So there's a great challenge going on over at Crafty Gals Corner! We have a challenge that begins every  WEDNESDAY! More often then not there are MULTIPLE SPONSORS PER WEEK! So there's plenty of chances to win!

Our sponsors this week are:

The Paper Nest Dolls
Prize: $20 gift certificate

AND

Lemon Shortbread
Prize: 3 digital images

This week's challenge is: ANYTHING GOES!
I made a card with each sponsor's delightful images. The first one is from Paper Nest Dolls and it's called Frog Princess.

How cute is that image?! Since I'm a bit of a Disney nut, I went with the green colors and I think it worked well for this card.

This second card features the image "Bone Goth Fairy" by Lemon Shortbread

I wanted this card to be a little on the darker side, but with lots of vine-y florals. I think this card came out a little more simple than what I had pictured in my head (Don't you just hate it when that happens?) but I still like it.

Thanks for stopping by today! Go ahead and head on over to Crafty Gals Corner, and join in on our challenge! You have until Tuesday at 12:00pm to enter!

Featured Friday over at Becca's Blog!

Hello there fellow crafters!

Today I'm honored to be featured over at The Damsel of Distressed's Blog also know as the lovely Becca!

I first met Becca during her term at Crafty Gals Corner as she was one of the DT members for the challenge blog I started. She makes MANY wonderful projects, and her style is just unique and awesome. She has so much inspiration on her blog mixed in with her humorous personality, and she asked ME to be featured on her blog!

During a Featured Friday, Becca picks her favorite project from that person's blog and we each CASE it! The original project was:

Now, CASEing your own work is pretty darn difficult. I've never done that before but here's what I came up with:

Since the last project was very much actual sea colors with blues and greens, I figured I would take a completely different approach on this project and use fun and bright colors. I also thought the rainbow colored hair would be a nice touch.

To create the background I used Stamping Up! Ink Refills to create the background much like you would with Alcohol Inks. The shell die cuts are hard to see but they are black with a lot of sparkle to them.

If you'd like to see how Becca CASed my project then go check out her blog!

I also have some other exciting news! Starting on September 24th, Becca and I are starting a monthly collaboration called the BS Session (Becca & Sammy). The last Thursday of the month we will be providing you tips and tricks to crafting. I'll be providing some coloring tips and she will be providing Mix Media tips.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Nikki Burnette - DT Introduction!

Hello there!

I have some super exciting news to share with you today!

I made the Nikki Burnette DT!

September 25th will be our first official challenge and you can follow our challenges over at this blog: HERE

For this DT introduction we were asked to make a project! SO here is what I came up with using the image called "Willow"

I just LOVE Center Step cards! They're so easy to make (especially when the Silhouette cuts it for you ;) ) I actually really love her red hair and the contrast that it brings in with the black and green! I hope you all like it too!

Thanks for stopping by!

Samantha
